No the i/o issues were caused by the lack of a good slog.  However, the bad
disk made me initially think the slog wasn't working.

Once I removed the bad disk from the pool, the i/o performance for the KVM
increased quite alot.  Now I'm seeing really good speeds in the KVM.

Yes, the pool will work fine if I remove the slog, but I'm not going to do
that. :)
