What networking driver are you creating your vnic over? Are you trying to do anything with the MTU? Can you share the vmadm get output for this as well? This looks like it could be https://smartos.org/bugview/OS-5516; however, there's not enough information to confirm. The version you upgraded to is old enough that it doesn't have that fix.
