I don't recall off hand what I've been testing with, but the SMCI defaults should be fine here. The mode, aside from disabled, doesn't have a large impact on the system as it's just a way of controlling the routing of devices between ehci and xhci controllers automatically (something that the driver and ACPI also often do).
