it doesn't cause them, it solves them by making the computer
clear it's memory (a bit like a nap...).

so is everything else working okay? does music play? do Word
documents open? is typing slow? or is it ONLY download?

I would switch everything off, and unplug it, inculding the
modem. Unplug everything from the iMac. Leave it for 15 minutes.
plug it all in and start again.

BUT - do you know how to get your broadband working again? Or,
do you ever switch the modem off and back on? the vast majority
will simply reconnect but there's a tiny chance it won't and I
guess you don't know how to get it started again! How did you
get it working in the first place?
