it doesn't cause them, it solves them by making the computer clear it's memory (a bit like a nap...). so is everything else working okay? does music play? do Word documents open? is typing slow? or is it ONLY download? I would switch everything off, and unplug it, inculding the modem. Unplug everything from the iMac. Leave it for 15 minutes. plug it all in and start again. BUT - do you know how to get your broadband working again? Or, do you ever switch the modem off and back on? the vast majority will simply reconnect but there's a tiny chance it won't and I guess you don't know how to get it started again!
