try a different user? does power still travel down the port and 
cable? I once had a FW connector lose data ablity but continue 
to provide power, many years ago. It does sound like you should 
check the cable before assuming anything else.

Just to be absolutely clear - is the FW 400 a completely 
different port or is attached via an adaptor?

I would also reset the power manager as that often fixes iSight 
bus problems - not identical , but not dissimilar either...
