Hi Phil It might also be a good idea to update the firmware on your NetGear, if you go to http://192.168.0.1 (that's the default IP address of your router but you might have changed it), log in then have a look at the firmware version. If you download the latest version of firmware for the version of your DG834G that might help. Firmware versions aren't compatible across versions of routers, so check the version number v1, v2, v3 etc on the sticker on the underside of the router.
Unzip the file that downloads from the netgear website and then select the resulting .img file in the router upgrade section of the NetGear's configuration page. Let the router finish updating (it may take 5 minutes). Definitely don't switch the router off until all the lights have stopped flashing and have settled down.
