I don't think anyone does for sure.  I have personally never had a duff disc
due to ageing and I have been burning / using CDs since the early nineties.
However, it does happen.  Unfortunately, as far as I can see, you are doing
the right thing, and it would be a good idea to check them every now and
then.

I would even suggest a backup on hard disc as an alternative media store of
the data, if you can.
