When I had replacement(s) from Apple, I started afresh and bought a  
new Applecare contract starting from delivery of the new machine. I  
didn't get a roll-over from the old contract, but wasn't too upset by  
this!

In spite of Sam's remarks about EU guarantees, I still think Applecare  
is a good thing. In the case of every computer I have had, I have used  
it on several occasions, and it has been well worth the cost.
