Maybe.

I have my 'main' mac.com email account - the one that shows when I log
into iTunes and under my MobileMe preferences for example. But
MobileMe allows me to have a number of 'alias' emails (login to
MobileMe via your browser, choose Mail preferences from the 'Gear'
menu then click the alias button). My 'main' account is one I give to
personal friends only (as much as possible) whereas itsagroup (when
this one is from) is used for every group and forum I join. I have
another separate one for online shopping and so on. This allows me to
see where spam etc. is originating and delete the troublesome account
if I want.

My 'main' account works fine on my iPod touch, but adding a New
Account via the Preferences you mention don't appear to let me use any
of my MobileMe alias accounts.
