I would highly recommend a TruePower battery, if they make one for your model of laptop. See http://fastmac.com/laptop.php. I replaced my MacBook Pro battery with one of these in May 09, and posted an update on its progress a while later. You can search the SMUG archive and find it, I'm sure. The battery's still working great and holds a bigger charge than the original Apple one. You could try eBay but it's a bit of a lottery, there are many cheap knockoffs from China which have similar capacities from the beginning! That being said I've also bought some really good batteries from eBay, it's usually a case of contacting the seller if the capacity's not what you'd expect. Replacing the battery is very simple, depending on the model you either turn a coin slot or slide a release catch and the battery pops up, you slot in the old one until it clicks in place then you're ready to go.
