Hi
My wife has an intel based iMac running Snow Leopard. When I
originally set the software up I used my name rather than hers for the
home folder. Big mistake!
I have been trying to work out how to change the name and googled
‘Snow Leopard rename home folder’ which returned, among other things,
a link to an Apple Support article at: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1428
This all looks straightforward once you have logged in as the root
user. Another article at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1528 explains
how to do this. Only problem is, Directory Utility doesn’t appear to
exist the machine. It should be in Applications/Utilities, I believe.
When I look on our other macs, which are still running 10.5.8, I can
see Directory Utility at this location. Is it now invisible or is it
just plain absent?
I think you just haven't read the HT1528 article closely enough - in Snow
Leopard you don't just launch the Directory Utility - you get to it from
the 'Login Options' screen in the 'Accounts' section of System Preferences,
as it says under the 10.6 and later section of the article.
Any advice anyone? If I copy this and ‘Directory’ into Snow Leopard
from another machine and try to enable root user will it work or will
the whole thing go egg-shaped?
Kind regards
John
Hope that helps,
Ed
