Morning all! Just to complete the story.
Mark Schofield offered to convert the scanned PDF for me, using Adobe Acrobat Pro, and I gratefully accepted his offer – and Carole's help in getting the large file to him. No sooner said than done! First thing this morning I found this email from Mark: Gilly, Your PDF file is here for download. This has been OCR'd and was used to create the Word and Pages file. You will find, in Preview (the Mac application), that you can now highlight and cut/copy text in the document. Best wishes Mark This is nothing short of miraculous! I simply can't believe it! Mark has saved me hours and days and weeks of work. It has all come through crystal clear and (for the first few pages that I have read, at least) totally fault-free. It is quite, quite amazing.
