They've recently raised the limit of extra space from 1GB to 3GB so if enough people sign up from your own referral link you could get up to 5GB in total. To send a file to someone, place it in the Public folder inside your DropBox folder and then copy the public link and paste it into an email to whoever you want to send the file to. To find the public link just right click the file > DropBox > copy public link. You can also set up a shared folder with another DropBox user is you regularly collaborate on files. I find it invaluable when working on websites with people.
