it's the loss of certain frequencies.... You lose subtle ambient sounds. But
you've heard this before... I noticed this at the time. I had recently bought
Faith by the Cure on vinyl but then my housemate bought a CD player so I
excitedly announced to my girlfriend she could have the vinyl and rushed out to
buy the CD, eager for the improved sound quality we were promised.

was really really pissed off. I always honour my word so I handed over the LP
to her knowing it sounded a lot better.

a) I don't think audio formats is off-topic on a mac list, given the extent to
which this has been advice on what format to use (and still is...errr nearly).

b) I'm list-mom so by definition, I can't be off-topic. It's nice being the law
sometimes.

But headphones would be off-limit, as soon as I say bin your cheap Apple ones
and buy Etymotic Research Er4s. They are astounding and worth every penny.
Plus, when mine started failing, I sent them for repair and got a brand new
pair (four years after purchase) for about thirty quid (the 'repair' charge).
ANd anyone who says 'but BOSE noise-cancelling...' will be moderated on account
of not being a true audiophile (yes, I have tried them, for several hours.
They're dreadful.)

Ok, this thread's gone on long enough now. No more on headphones please;-)
