Thanks for persevering here.

Not sure where to find when its set to sync, unless you are referring to the 
time zone options mobile me?
If so, it WAS set to US time, I have changes it to UK / London time, and hit 
sync.
The contact I put in the phone is still there, but it is not on the iMac?

PS: Not sure if this helps but calendars appear to be synchronising OK between 
the iMac, the iPhone, and the wife's macbook pro.
