Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > click on the Device name above the name of the volume > click on partition > set to 1 partition > click options > GUID Partition Scheme > set the volume format to Mac OS Extended > click apply. That should format for Mac while also changing the partition scheme form MBR to GUID.
