Thank you Sam.

Q1 sorted I really ought to start believing what my iMac tells me !!

Q2 I really screwed up the question.I had forgotten about vhs years ago.
The Dvd is I think compatible with windows media
I can play it on my mac by putting onto the slot. I thought it was iDVD which
played it but I am not so sure as if I open iDVD I cannot reach the dvd.
Imovie does not want to know.
On a PC I used to use Pinnacle and that reads and work OK but I am slowly
reducing my PC use.

I am obviously doing something stupid or at best wrong.
Can you in your wisdom guide me
thank
regards
Brian

  Hi Brian

  iTunes :

On the MacBook go to Apple Menu > System Prefs > Sharing > enable Personal
File Sharing
On the iMac look in the left-hand column of any Finder window under the
Shared section, you should see the MacBook has appeared > click on it > click
'connect as' > type in the username & password for the user on the MacBook

From the list of shares that appear > double click the share with the same
name as the user on the MacBook > Music folder > iTunes > iTunes Music >
select all the folders and drag them onto the iTunes icon in your dock. That
will open iTunes and import all the MP3s from the MacBook's iTunes library.

  iMovie :

By normal video recording, do you mean VHS? If so you'll need a video
digitiser to connect the video player to, then connect that to the computer and
iMovie. Once it's been digitised into iMovie, you can use iDVD to burn the
result onto a DVD. http://www.formac.com/webapp/products_av_studiodeluxe.php
will connect most analogue video devices to your Mac.

  Hope that helps
