This is a question for the techies - I'm at a conference in Aberdeen with my laptop running OS 10.4.11. There is wifi available and I have been given a 'resident' username and password for their 'resnet'. I have put in the necessary info and it says 'connected to resnet'. However I cannot get further than the Aberdeen University website so it looks like there is a firewall issue. In their technical advice they advise turning off ipv6 - but when I go into Network Preferences there is a loop I can't get out of. A message drops down saying 'Your network settings have been changed by another programme' which only has an 'OK' button. If I click on that there is a one second delay and then it drops down again. Is there a way to stop this happening? In the split second before it drops down again I can get on the page for configuring ipV6 but unless that window disappears I can't get access to the page. Please advise!! I'm asking here because my experience of university IT staff is that they usually would rather eat their hat than deal with a Mac.The setup here clearly assumes PC (Vista) users.
