which router are you using? I saw this with two BT routers for weeks (they sent a replacement). Eventually I realised a firmware update at the end of August (automatic one) had effectively made the wireless useless as it kept doing what you're describing.

In the end in complete exasperation I bought some ethernet-over-power boxes which have given me reliable connection (though I wish I had noticed they were only 10/100 ethernet, not gigabit, first as connection between the two computers would be a lot better if I had).
