it's actually not that old... 2gig processor, 2 gig RAM. Running Vista. takes three to four minutes to start up and very unresponsive. 500 quid a couple of years ago, I think.
She's a complete newbie so she's probably done something bonkers (she has apparently split the drive into two because someone said it was a good idea;) The 250 gig drive is partitioned, and, uh, one partition is empty. Looks like they didn't say WHY it was a good idea;)
Currys are doing an HP laptop for £376 at the moment, 500gb drive and windows 7. It may only be a dual core pentium but it's faster than an old laptop.
