In order to run other network simcards, someone from the group will have to let you know the current app to use (I have an older 3g which is officially carrier unlocked, so its a long time since i needed to do this), but basically you install that program from cydia and your phone then accepts any sim. for running pirated apps, there is yet another application and framework you need to find and install in cydia, but thats a moral question for you to decide if you want to google for yourself. In any of these cases if you install an official apple update, or press restore this iphone when in itunes it will remove everything so you are correct in saying you need to wait for the jailbreak to come out for the new version of the software, but you are incorrect in your other assumptions. Finally the best option for using your other sim cards, is to ask the carrier you bought it from to unlock it. This is an option in the UK now, but i believe not in the USA etc, so it depends on them. There may or may not be a fee, and it means you will be able to put any sim you like in from anywhere in the world, jailbreak if you like, and never have to worry about unlocking and your firmware versions. And increase the value of your phone if you ever want to sell it. I'm thinking about unlocking it. i need it to work with itunes as we develop iphone apps and i need to test them etc. am i right in saying you cant use the itunes store to download apps if you unlock the phone? also is it correct that you cant update the software until the jailbreak comes out for the new version of software? is jail break unlocking or is that when you download the free apps (that should be paid for? i'm travelling a lot in different countries this year, i dont mind unlocking, then updating the software and unlocking with the new version iof the software in another country, that could work. am i right in what i understand and is there anything else i need to consider do you reckon? just not using the iphone as it is, other than for work purposes when on the net.
