it's a CPU thing. My Mac Pro does it a lot quicker than my MBP did, and
so on. Even then it's annoying (about a third of the playback time, or a
quarter, or so).
Elgato make a hardware accelerator but it's not much quicker than your
iMac, I think. It does free up the CPU though. It's a little USB stick.
But it won't rip from 'bought DVDs' so you have to rip it first.
