I imagine it's the usual thing of slicing the market up as much as possible so there's a distinction between GB on the iPad, GB on the Mac, Logic Express, Logic Audio etc.
Frankly, I find that GB on the Mac does almost everything I need - though the ability to mix time sigs in a song would satisfy my prog rock leanings.
