I've been wondering a similar thing. My MacBook Pro got slower, but not unusable when upgraded to Lion that I am waiting until 10.8.1 to be out before considering the next upgrade. Has anyone else had a slow computer disaster with their slightly older machines or is mountain lion generally safe in this respect? http://roaringapps.com/apps:table This is a handy list of Lion/Mountain Lion tested 3rd party applications if there are any specific apps you are worried about.
