I'd think from the screenshot that it was caused by the self-signed certificate called Derek Cross in your login keychain. Mail would pick up on that and attempt to digitally sign all your emails.
I know the issue's sorted now but you can always drag the certificate to the desktop to export it, then delete it and see if that sorts the problem.
