I finally found it - it's one of Apple's nasty little "features" like the Sidebar headings in the Finder and iTunes that hide all the entries below them when you click "Hide" without any indication that there's anything there. Grrr. What is needed is to hover the cursor over the name of the base station, and voila! What a daft idea! Thanks again Sam.
