Well, tomorrow came yesterday and contacted Apple who after backing up and
resetting decided I had a faulty iPad, and agreed to replace it.
Today I went to the Apple store and swapped the iPad for a brand new no quibble
iPad.
Connect to MBP and panic!! wrong software version update OK, ok.
New iPad fully restored as if nothing had ever happened.
Isn't it just great when a plan comes together.
Thanks Sam for your late night help

Selected 13 was asked are you sure picked yes. Switcher off and on can only get
connected next to hub. Cannot understand this is everything else is still
working. MBP Mac mini iPhone touch and PC.
Giving it a rest tonight, start again tomorrow.
Thanks, as usual Sam for your help.Michael

Shouldn't cause any problems but you can always set it back if anything stops
working. Also try automatic if it's currently set to 1, could be a wireless
frequency clash with a nearby wireless router.

Is the BT Home Hub wifi network channel (http://192.168.1.254 then settings >
wireless network) set to 'automatic'? That can cause problems with some
devices. Try setting it to 13.

On the iPad go to Home > Settings > General > Resets > Reset All Settings (this
won't delete your data, just system settings). The iPad will restart and you
may need to enter some settings again, usually just wifi passwords, that might
help. The reset cured one of my client's iPads that was able to get online but
couldn't connect to the iTunes store.

In settings WiFi not connected and nothing showing in list. Standing next to
the BT home hub it will connect but for only 5 to 10 min. Usually have ours,
BTWiFi, BTWiFi-with-Fon, and some neighbour.

iPad new at Christmas and had no problem until now. All help appreciated.
