You'd want the files digitally, rather than exporting visually through the AV 
ports. Normally the FCP capture method would convert on the fly from MTS to MOV 
file. MTS is just Panasonic's wrapper for MPEG4 video, so shouldn't have any 
problems importing it. How is your friend importing the video exactly? What 
menu commands etc. Also what version of FCP is it?
