I use the application called Grab. I simply have the alias icon in my menu bar, 
click on it and usually choose the "capture" command which allows you to choose 
the area of screen you want to take a screen shot of. Then click "save" and it 
becomes a tiff file. From there it's easy to handle and make it a jpeg or 
anything else you want and print it or email it.
