I have an old Mac Pro (one of the first Intel ones, running OSX Lion) and I'm about to migrate to a new MacBook Pro with 1Tb flash storage and 16Gb RAM.

The Mac Pro has Ethernet and Firewire 400 (and USB2) connections.
The MacBook Pro has Thunderbolt and USB3.
The MBP can be be connected to a Thunderbolt display so it therefore has Ethernet and Firewire 800 available.

I also have a StarTech USB3 external dock and could put the SATA drive holding the TM drive from the Mac Pro in it. And I also have a Thunderbolt to Firewire connector (and a FW 400/800 adaptor).

Given all the above, what's my best choice to connect the machines for migrating the Mac Pro content/apps to the MacBook Pro?

Thanks, Graham
