Yes Parallels VMs are generally automatically excluded from Time Machine, or
you'd have to back up a 30GB file every hour even if a tiny part of it had
changed. VMWare Fusion allows the VM to be split across 2GB chunks, which
mitigates this somewhat, but they do tend to be modified a lot.
The USB3 StarTech dock is great, I've got the 4bay enclosure and use it daily.
The USB3/eSATA version which I got rid of has a known fault where the entire
enclosure resets if you switch off a drive, so turning one drive off can cut
the connection temporarily to the other three, completely useless and StarTech
are aware of it but still sell it! The USB3 only version doesn't suffer from
the problem.
