Siri recently got an option to always listen out for "hey siri" or a simiar phrase, it runs when on power but not on battery. I'd guess it was that which is a bit creepy. my iphone is always charging next to me while I sleep, but I also have do not disturb and turn on flight mode when I'm asleep so siri wouldn't work in those circumstances anyway...
