Best thing with the genius bar is to make an appointment at the earliest
whiff of a problem, as you can always cancel it if it turns out to be user
error.  So when your chosen time slot becomes available in a week and a
half you have already tried out all the self-troubshooting steps you can
manage.

As for demonstrating it to them, I would go with "no matter what I try no
one can hear me in facetime conversations"  Use their own products in a
simple works/doesn't work way.
