Sam Thanks, I got so frustrated with this I sat down with both computers next to each other and tried to find out what the difference was in the accounts and other settings to see if I could work it out. It took me about half an hour but it turns out that there are a lot of settings in mail preferences for the Junk folder, so I made sure that they were identical on both machines. I think what made the difference was the "when junk arrives" setting has to have the "move it to the junk folder" ticked. It now works ok. There are just so many options for everything on the Mac one could spend hours messing around with them. Anyway, I thought I would let you know just in case someone else has the problem. Thanks for being there as always Sam. As a matter of interest, what did you mean by "rebuild the Mailbox" How does one do that? Andy
