On the surface I'd say you'll be fine, it's only if you downloaded and ran an 
installer that something would be running in the background. The pop up warning 
saying your Mac's infected is just a scam trying to get you to call a number 
and speak to a "technician".

You could always download malwarebytes anti malware for Mac and see if that 
shows anything.

I had to force quit Safari. When I reloaded Safari the same pages opened again. 
I think I have now managed to clear everything, but I am concerned that there 
is something lurking somewhere in the background.
