True but it is a viable Option if tinkering is difficult. The Mac mini and 2012
iMac I set up this way are
Very nippy and perfectly usable. Good for those who are unhappy dismantling.

cheers,

Compare usb2 band witch with sata2 and you won't be using anywhere near the
capacity of an SSD over USB, especially with virtual memory on the disk.

Hi gang

I've found just using an external USB SSD as a start up works a lot better than
you'd expect if you don't want to mess with Velcro got a Mac mini 2006 still
nimble with that set up.

cheers,

That serial’s coming up as invalid, but the iMac 2009 is about a 1hr job to
install an SSD. You can one of these to mount the SSD :
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Icybox-IB-2535StS-2-5-inch-3-5-inch-Converter/dp/B003952FFQ
or I prefer self-adhesive velcro and secure with Kapton tape, the iMac has its
own thermal sensor which sticks onto the SSD to provide the temperature and
keep the fans going properly.
