ok, thanks. (I dispute that legal interpretation by Apple btw, as I'm
sure you did - especially that one!) They have 'your battery for X is
expected to hold 80% of its charge after 1000 charges' with years
varying for device so I'll see how I get on talking to them...
cheers

Batteries are generally not covered as they’re expected to fail.
I’ve been to the apple store with a 2 year old battery which has
swollen and warped the case of a MacBook Pro, they told me “that’s
just what batteries do when they die”.
They’re easily user replaceable though, you can get a decent one on
Amazon for around £60, it’ll come with tools.

Hi everyone
Work has replaced my old Macbook Air (2015, with an almost identical
one from 2017, sigh) and I want to replace the battery on the old one
which has been complaining via the menu it needs replacing for
months, and doesn't hold a charge for long.
I went to book a repair/replacement and found lots of links to the
consumer laws (summary: stuff should work at least five-seven years).

Does anyone here know what line they take on batteries? I know the
usual line is that batteries wear out and so they're not covered but
I can't find any explicit mention of that. I'm sure Apple insist they
are not but does anyone know of cases where they accepted they were
covered under the law?
Thanks
Jason
