I find Mail a bit sluggish in registering when you move to a new email and click reply. If you use the keyboard arrow keys to navigate, then cmd+R to reply, it’s easy to reply to the previous mail you were looking at, not the current one.
I’ve sent many an email to the wrong person but as I’m mainly just telling people to switch things off and on again, it never makes too much of a difference. Back to the original issue, sounds like a crumb underneath the spacebar.
