Hi Gilly, That looks like the Apple Smart Keyboard Folio - it connects to the iPad Pro via the connectors at the rear.
If no physical keyboard is connected via the pins at the rear, or by Bluetooth, then the iPad Pro’s software keyboard will always appear when typing is required. The black keyboard doesn’t have Bluetooth so it must be physically connected via the three pins on the rear of your iPad Pro to enable its use and to hide the “pop up keyboard”.
