I am a part of the Navy Acquisition Intern Program. I
think that is our official title. I don't have to
compete for my promotions. I started as a GS 7 in
September. Next Oct. I will be a GS 9, the following
year I will be a GS 11..and when I graduate the
program, I have been promised and the command I am at
had to obligate a GS 12 position for me in order to
get my labor services free for 3 years. My paycheck
and bosses come from Mechanicsburg, PA. Therefore, at
any time depending on the needs of the Navy, I can be
sent to any location they would need my services at.
What is nice is that if there are any rifts or
cutbacks at my host command, I will have a job..not
necessarily there, but somewhere. So I like that
security aspect of it.

Now how did I get this job?? Well..I applied through
the USAJOBS site but had to have a degree in a
business field, 24 hours of business credits and only
6 of them could be Business Law related. I had to be
in the upper 10% of my graduating class and a member
of an nationally recongnized Honor Society. So...

I have found that they have increased the requirements
for certification starting in March of this coming
year. I will have to take 2 more additional classes
this year...in order to gain certification and be
promoted. I have to take 2 extra classes every year
after that plus the required ones. A masters is
desired but not required..but they are paying for it
and will continue to fund it for 2 years after I
finish the program if I can't get through it in time
for graduation. Whew.

It is a great program and I am very blessed to be in
it. They are hiring 300 new interns in several
fields..including enginneering, logistics, facilities
management, IT, and financial management as well as
contracting. Like we were told today..they are making
sure the civil servants of tomorrow are properly
trained and everyone has the same instructions.

=====
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end
the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance.
