Respectfully, the idea is not to enter a competition that you are not
going to try to win. I believe in general, people driven to prove
their skills rise to the occasion without regard to the circumstances.

The point behind the "competition equivalent" is to provide a fair,
representative and difficult way of substituting a locally achievable
task for for the existing requirement which provides an overwhelming
obstacle for some pilots who would like to have their skills tested in
a way which is close as possible to the standards set by the current
LSF. As I noted elsewhere, the I am faced with the prospect of driving
40 to 50,000 miles over a six or seven year period to get 30 or 40 shots
at scoring my LSF V contests. I am planning to do this. Nevertheless,
it is not realistic. I would like to have a parallel path to challenge
me when I am not on the road -- one that is as difficult, and one that
will test the same skills in a way that will help keep my interest
level up between attempts.

The point behind the "competition participation requirement" is my
deeply held belief that an important part of this sport is meeting new
people, seeing new places and experiencing new things -- in these
respects the existing LSF has been very effective. I believe a
"participation requirement" does not place an onerous burden on the
aspirant, it may introduce them to new experiences and it will support
the growth of the sport as a whole.

Finally, I simply laid out a concept as a discussion point -- whether
it includes every element or even any element of what ends up in a
final product is beyond my control.
