Mark, The cost is not 3 to 5 times what it should be, it sounds like it is 3 to 5 times more than you want to pay. I spent probably close to 2 to 3 hours dealing with UPS to file my claim plus the receiver spent time as well taking the package back to UPS. If you figure even $10.00/hr (I do not work that cheap at my day job)that would have saved me $20-$30 bucks on the shipment right there by going to the UPS Store. Also, the last time I used them to ship a plane, they boxed it, insured and shipped to CA from KS for ~ $60.00. They furnished the box and all packing materials, was open on a Saturday and were conveniently located to my house, so it was worth every penny. My customer was more than happy to pay it since he got a nice pristine plane when the big box arrived. I will gladly pay the difference for the peace of mind in the future.
