Bill,
I would second the suggestion that you look at Pelican cases. I have used these things all over the world to carry equipment on rough trips. They are THE benchmark standard for carrying delicate equipment on expedition.
Right. I have absolutely no doubts that they are good. A plastic case full of foam rubber that costs over $100 had jolly well better be good. If you recall, I'm the guy who has a '92 Toyota with 193K miles on the clock for my commuter/aircraft carrier. I'm only looking for a new case because the old typewriter case I bought at a pawn shop for $15 finally died.
That said, I have been using the regular JR aluminum cases for years and have never had a problem. And they are basically the same as the aluminum "attache cases" that you find at Home Depot, only smaller.
I'm looking for an excuse to drive up to Spokane where I can find a Lowes and Home Depot across the street from one another and comparison shop. Say, if I recall, there are some pretty good pawn shops in Spokane, too. ;-)
