Tom,
If you just put in new brushes, they will have to seat in before you get
full power/contact with the commutator. And did you clean up the
commutator, scrap between the copper plates?

Bary,
Thanks for the input. I'm still trying to get my winch set up properly. I
put the needle bearing in, but something else must have gotten misaligned,
as it was actually worse. I reset all the brushes, and will try again this
weekend. It spins up fairly well with no load (and no line on the drum).
I may have to replace the solenoids, as well. I think I may be getting too
much contact resistance.
Anyway, once I have something definite to say, it will be up on RCSE.
