Wittlebee Acquires Clothing Company
----
Culver City-based Wittlebee, the children's clothing subscription firm
headed by Sean Pervical and backed by Science, Inc., has acquired a
clothing company, Cottonseed Clothing Company, the firm announced
today. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Cottonseed
Clothing Company is a provider of t-shirt and apparel for kids.
Wittlebee said the acquisition will allow it to offer Cottonseed
Clothing's product exclusively through its service. Wittlebee said
that Cottonseed was one the first vendors to supply clothing to the
company. The firm also said that Cottonseed Clothing CEO Erin
Gutierrez will continue to be involved in the manufacturing process
for the company.

LoveIt Enhances Social Sharing Site
----
LoveIt, the venture backed photo curation and sharing site backed and
run by a number of PriceGrabber veterans, said this morning that it
has released a batch of new features for its service. The Pasadena
company said that it has added such features as content importing and
batch uploads. LoveIt is taking on Pinterest, allowing users to
visually curate collections of their favorite photos of products and
other items. The new features specifically aim at allowing users to
import their entire Pinterest boards and images from the popular
photo-focused social sharing service. The new features also allow
users to import images from Instagram, Tumblr, and Flickr. LoveIt is
headed by Ron LaPierre, former President of PriceGrabber. The company
announced a $6M, venture funding round in June.

CraveOnline Snags AOL Vet As Sales VP
----
Los Angeles-based CraveOnline, the men's lifestyle site owned by
Evolve Media, said today that it has snagged Drew Berkowitz, the
former General Manager of AOL's Video Unit Goviral as its new Senior
Vice President of Sales. Berkowitz also ran IAC's Mindspark division,
including Vimeo. Evolve Media said Berkowitz will lead the sales
efforts of its East Coast, Midwestern and West Coast sales teams.

Sorenson Media Licenses Technology To Semiconductor Firm
----
San Diego-based Sorenson Media, the developer of video encoding and
decoding software, said today that it has licensed its Sorenson Spark
Video decoder to semiconductor firm Renesas Electronics Corporation.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Sorenson said that
Renesas will use its video decoder in its next generation chipsets.
Sorenson's decoding software is used to play videos from the Internet.

Yardi Upgrades Mobile Apps
----
Santa Barbara-based real estate and property management software
developer Yardi said MOnday that it has updated its mobile software,
Yardi Maintenance Mobile. The firm's app, which runs on Android, Apple
iOS, and BlackBerry, allows maintenance workers to create, update, and
close work orders in Yardi's Voyager software. Yardi develops software
used for property management and real estate investment management.

Isis Pharmaceuticals Gets $1.4M From Alnylam
----
Carlsbad-based biopharmaceuticals firm Isis Pharmaceuticals, which is
developing treatments for Crohn's disease and other rare diseases,
said this morning that it will receive $1.4M from Alnylam
Pharmaceuticals. The payment comes as part of a collaboration between
the two companies in the area of agriculture. Isis said the deal also
includes potential future royalty payments and future milestone
payments. The two companies have been in a strategic relationships
since 2004 around RNAi technology.

Sapphire Energy In Production In New Mexico
----
San Diego-based Sapphire Energy, the heavily venture backed developers
of biofuels technology, reported Monday morning that it has completed
the first phase of its facility in New Mexico, and has begun producing
crude oil at the plant. The company said that so far, the facility has
harvested 81 tons of biomass at the facility. Sapphire--which raised a
huge, $144M venture funding round in April--said the commercial
algae-to-energy facility is expected to produce 1.5 million gallons
per year of crude oil, made from renewable algae. The company's Green
Crude Farm was backed by $85M in private investment, plus a USDA loan
guarantee and a $50M grant from the U.S. Department of Energy.
Sapphire is venture backed by Arrowpoint Partners, Monsanto, as well
as many others.

Winklevoss Twins Set Up Shop In LA
----
Who are the latest folks looking to connecting into the Los Angeles
technology scene? No other than the Winklevoss Twins, Cameron and
Tyler Winklevoss, according to a report from TMZ Monday, which said
the two have purchased a house in the Hollywood Hills and are looking
to launch an arm of their investment firm, Winklevoss Capital, thanks
to the booming tech scene here. TMZ said the two purchased an $18M
home -- thanks in part to $65M from a settlement with Mark Zuckerberg,

BUZZMEDIA Buys Four Punk Rock Blogs
----
Los Angeles-based BUZZMEDIA, the growing online music publisher,
reported Monday morning that it has acquired four punk rock sites,
which it will use to create a new punk music group called
AbsoluteVoices. BUZZMEDIA said it acquired Under The Gun Review, Alter
The Press!, Punknews.org and PropertyOfZack, which it will join with
its current AbsolutePunk punk rock news site under the AbsoluteVoices
brand. Financial terms of the buys were not announced. Punknews.org
was founded in 1998, providing online music news and a fan community;
PropertyOfZack is a Tumblr blog focused on punk; Under The Gun Review
focuses on entertainment, music, film, and comedy; and Alert The
Press! includes content such as videos, albums, news, and interviews.
BUZZMEDIA operates such music sites as SPIN, Celebuzz, Stereogum,
Videogum, Buzznet, and many others.

FamilyFinds Launches SuperFinds Membership Program
----
Los Angeles-based FamilyFinds, the online daily deals and
family-oriented coupons service backed by Matt Coffin, looks to be
transitioning its model from the standard, buy-a-special-deal program
that daily deals services like Groupon and LivingSocial have used, and
is moving towards a membership-based program. (More...)

Fandango: Mobile Drives Best Summer, Ever
----
Mobile consumers drove what Los Angeles-based movie ticketing and
information site Fandango says is its best summer in its history, as
mobile purchases drove a 26 percent year-to-year increase in ticket
sales on the service. According to Fandango, mobile ticket sales
increased 116 percent over the past year, more than doubling, and now
are more than 30 percent of all of its ticket sales. Fandango has been
reporting that its mobile apps have been driving a big surge in its
sales in the last year or so, and it looks like the trend is building.
The company reports that it saw more than 26 million downloads of its
various mobile apps. Fandango's web sites and apps let moviegoers
purchase tickets in advance to films, and print those at home or use
their mobile app as a ticket. The firm did not break down which
platforms have seen the biggest increase, but the company supports
iPhone and iPad, Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone 7 with its apps.

OpenX Partners On Japanese Mobile Advertising
----
Los Angeles-based online advertising technology firm OpenX and
Japanese firm CyberWing Corporation announced Monday that the two have
launched a new, private advertising exchange aimed at the Japanese
mobile market. The two said they expect to launch the advertising
exchange in the second half of the year. Financial terms of the deal
were not announced. CyberWing is a subsidiary of NEC BIGGLOBE, and
represents a number of Japanese Internet Service Providers, including
BIGGLOBE, Nifty Corporation, and Twipple, among others.
