Kidworth Becomes Bizinate, Gets Funding, Expands To Older Users
----
Los Angeles-based Kidworth, the online service which makes it easy for
kids to offer their services and start a business, said today that it
has renamed itself Bizinate. The firm said the name change came as it
found that entrepreneurs of all ages--including college students and
adults--were strongly interested in its services. The company, led by
Rudy DeFelice, said the name change more accurately reflects its
growing user base. As part of the announcement, the company also said
it has raised $1.0M in a first round of funding; other details on the
funding were not announced.

Eucalyptus Deploys In India With Ingram Micro
----
Santa Barbara-based cloud computing software developer Eucalyptus
Systems is deploying its software to India, the firm said this week,
via a new partnership with distributor Ingram Micro. Eucalpytus, which
develops cloud computing software to help companies deploy their
applications to Amazon Web Services and other clouds, said that Ingram
Micro will offer up its software to its value added resellers in
India. Ingram Micro will also be an authorized education partner in
that country.

ReachLocal Opens New Offices In Canada, Germany
----
Continuing its international expansion, Woodland Hills-based
ReachLocal, which helps local businesses market themselves online
through paid search marketing and other advertising, said it has
opened up new offices in Canada and Germany. The firm said it has
opened up new offices in Calgary, Ottawa and Edmonton, as well as new
offices in  Munich and Frankfurt. ReachLocal has been active in Canada
since 2008, and in Germany since 2011.

MyLife Launches New Product
----
Los Angeles-based MyLife.com, the online website headed by Jeff
Tinsley which helps users manage their online social accounts, has
launched a new product, the firm announced this morning. MyLife said
it has launched Profile Remover, a new product which lets users
monitor, manage, and remove personal information from the web. The new
product scans the web to determine what kind of information is
available on a person, and then allows users to either manage that
data, or request removal of that information. The company said
scanning the web for personal information is available at no cost, but
the firm did not say how much it cost to request removal of
information.

SnapCuts Launches Facebook App
----
Pasadena-based SnapCuts, the developer of a social video greeting
service which is headed by Bee Ottinger, has debuted a new Facebook
app, which lets users assemble video-based messages and share them
with their friends. The firm said its new Facebook app lets users
"snap together" various video clips to form messages to friends, and
also lets users add personalized notes to their newly created mashups.
SnapCuts pulls clips from movies, television shows, and elsewhere,
which can be mixed and combined to create custom video messages, and
sent to friends as a video greeting card.

BioIQ Partners With Health Insurance Brokerage
----
Santa Barbara-based BioIQ, the developer of software and technology
for the health and wellness industry, said Tuesday that it has
partnered with privately held insurance brokerage and consulting firm
Keenan. BioIQ said that its health screening programs are being used
by Keenan to help California hospitals and health clinics to conduct
employee health screening programs and measure wellness efforts. BioIQ
said that so far, the two have worked together to conduct wellness
programs at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, Methodist
Hospital in Arcadia, and Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage.
BioIQ helps run wellness programs, by automating appointments, sending
reminders, conducting on-site screenings, handling mailing at-home
test kits, as well as aggregating all that information online. BioIQ
is backed by Great Pacific Capital, the venture firm of Fastclick
founder Dave Gross.

Latest Mars Curiosity Tie In: Music From Mars With will.i.am
----
The latest Mars mission out of Psaadena's NASA Jet Propulsion
Laboratory has another interesting tie-in: a song dedicated to space
exploration from musician will.i.am. will.i.am debuted a new song
Tuesday, broadcasting it from the surface of Mars via the Curiosity
rover. The tune was specifically composed around the themes of
science, technology, and space exploration. NASA said the move is part
of an effort with Discovery Education, to promote a new science,
technology, engineering, arts and mathematics with its assets,
including the Mars Curiosity Rover. NASA has been quite involved in
commercial tie-ins into this latest Mars mission, having just
announced a deal with Angry Bird maker Rovio last week on a special,
Angry Birds Space "Red Planet" update.

Sirigen Acquired By Becton, Dickinson
----
Sirigen, a developer of fluorescent biomarkers used in flow cytometry,
and which was started at the University of California, Santa Barbara,
has been acquired by Becton, Dickinson and Co.. Financial terms of the
buy were not disclosed. Sirigen was venture backed by Great Pacific
Capital, Seraphim Capital, and Oxford Capital Partners. Sirigen is now
based in the United Kingdom, and also has operations in San Diego. The
firm was founded at UCSB, by Professor Guillermo C. Bazan, Dr. Brent
S. Gaylord, and Mr. Patrick J. Dietzen, after placing first prize in a
business plan competition at the UCSB New Venture Competition.

Report: Coda Automotive Sales Sluggish
----
Santa Monica-based Coda Automotive, the developer of electric cars,
seems to be getting a sluggish start to sales, six months after it
began selling its first model. According to a report from the Los
Angeles Times, the startup has sold only 78 vehicles, at most, based
on figures released by the National Traffic Safety Administration
(NTSA) along with a recall of the Coda's side air bags. Coda
Automotive has not released any official sales figures yet for its
electric automobiles.
