How An Acquisition Is Helping Wittlebee Break  Into The Clothing Industry
----
Earlier this week, Los Angeles-based Wittlebee (www.wittlebee.com)
announced the acquisition of its own, clothing company--Cottonseed
Clothing Company--as it continues to build out its subscription,
children's clothing service. Wittleebee is backed by Science Inc., and
co-founder Sean Percival is a MySpace vet and a familiar face in
Southern California's social media circles. We caught up with Sean to
learn more about the acquisition, and how the buy of Cottonseed is one
of the things helping the firm break into the closed and protective
clothing industry.

As a quick refresher for those who haven't used Wittlebee yet, can you
briefly talk about what you offer?

Wallaby Raises $1.1M For Smart Credit Card
----
Pasadena-based Wallaby, the digital wallet startup out of MuckerLab,
has scored $1.1M in a funding round, the company announced this
morning. The firm--which is led by Matthew Goldman--said the funding
came from the Founders Fund Angel and and WI Harper Group, along with
SLP Ventures, Lion Wells Capital, and other angels. Those angels,
while un-named, including former Green Dot executives. Wallaby is
developing a credit card, which automatically routes transactions to a
consumers' other credit cards, based on their rewards and goals. The
company said the funding round allows its to expand and refine its
program. The firm's card lets users direct purchases to specific
credit cards they carry, in order to maximize and optimize the rewards
on those cards.

WD Targets Mac With New External Hard Drive System
----
Irvine-based disk drive maker WD is targeting Mac OS X users with a
new external hard drive system, the My Book VelociRaptor Duo, which it
says is one of the fastest external HDD systems available on the
market. WD said its new system is aimed at Mac computer users and
creative professionals, and includes two, 1 TB, 10,000 RPM hard
drives. The 2 TB dual-drive system is aimed at editing high resolution
video and other high throughput applications like graphic design,
digital media, and photo editing. The new system starts at $899.99 and
also includes RAID 0 and RAID 1 options.

DataDirect Networks Names European Head
----
Chatsworth-based storage provider DataDirect Networks has named a new
head of its European operations, the firm said Wednesday. DataDirect,
which develops data storage products aimed at high performance
computing and other sectors, said that it has named Pascal Barbolosi
as Vice President, EMEA. Barbolosi was previously at Bull, heading up
its High Performance Computing (HPC) business unit.

SOA Software Trumpets Business Transactions Volume
----
Los Angeles-based SOA Software, the developer of service oriented
architecture (SOA), cloud, and other enterprise API management
software, said Tuesday that its products are now handling more than 50
billion business transactions per year. The firm pointed to the volume
as proof that it's a "core part" of critical enterprise systems. SOA's
software is used by companies to manage messages and transactions
between business applications. It's unclear how that volume of usage
translates into finances, product adoption, or other measures.
However, the firm said it now counts such clients as American Express,
Astra Zeneca, Bank of America, Coca-Cola, Credit Suisse, Disney, eBay,
Intel, and many other household names as customers.

Two San Diego Sites Rank Tops In Rising Social Networking Interest
----
A report issued this week by Experian Marketing Services has
identified two, San Diego niche social networking sites as being among
the fastest growing sites between July of 2011 and July of 2012.
Experian said that--in an analysis to find the next Instagram or
Pinterest--it conducated an international study of web sites to find
the fastest growing niche social networking. In addition to Instagram
(17,319 percent growth year to year) and Pinterest (5124 percent
growth), Experian said the two other largest growing sites in North
America it identified were Skillwho, a San Diego social networking
site to help users find people with skills from friends or a local
area (7,435 percent increase), and StockTwits (943 percent increase),
the stock social networking and discussion site led by Howard Lindzon,
which is also in San Diego.

Avril Lavigne Taps Invested.in For Crowdfunding Effort
----
Singer/songwriter Avril Lavigne has tapped online software from Los
Angeles-based startup Invested.in for a new crowdfunding campaign for
her Avril Lavigne Foundation, according to Lavigne. According to
Lavigne, she has launched the Rockstar Room, which will use
crowdfunding to tap her fans to raise money to support children and
youth with serious illnesses and disabilities. Lavigne said that her
fans and others can join the Rockstar Room to help raise money for
children with serious illnesses and disabilities, including funding
efforts by those kids to write, perform, and record their own unique
song, and to help provide them with guitar picks and toys.
Invested.in, which is headed by Alon Goren, helps power web-based
crowdfunding sites for individuals, businesses, and charitable
organizations.

Callfire Ties With Democratic Campaign Provider
----
Callfire, the developer of telephony services and APIs, reported
Wednesday that it has tied with a provider technology services for
Democratic candidates. CallFire said it was designated the preferred
provider of cloud broadcast voice and hosted IVR telephony services by
NGP VAN, which the company says is used by "virtually every"
Democratic candidate and progressive organization conducting a field
campaign. Financial details of the link were not disclosed. Callfire
said that NGP VAN is powering campaigns for President Obama's
reelection. Callfire is led by Dinesh Ravishanker, and provides
enterprise, telephony APIs and services to help developers create
interactive voice response, text messaging, voice broadcast, and other
telephony applications.

WhatRunsWhere Buys Mobile Ad Spy For Mobile Ad Tracking
----
San Diego-based WhatRunsWhere, a startup which develops advertising
tracking technology, said Wednesday morning that it has acquired
Mobile Ad Spy, a UK-based mobile ad tracking startup. Financial terms
of the buy were not disclosed. WhatRunsWhere said it would use the
acquisition to launch a new offering in the mobile ad tracking market.
WhatRunsWhere operates a service to help advertisers and their
agencies to track their competitors online advertising campaigns; the
firm's COO is Max Teitelbaum.
