According to Move, it paid $22M in cash for TigerLead. Move explained the acquisition will help extend its lead generation product set. TigerLead was founded by Howard Tager, Art Sawyer, and Adam Ingersoll. Move runs real estate sites Realtor.com, ListHub, and other related businesses. Malware Analysis Firm Norman Sets Up HQ In San Diego ---- Norman AS, a developer of malware analysis and security software, said today that it has opened up a new, U.S. corporate headquarters in San Diego. Norman said the new office will house sales, marketing, product management, and R&D personnel, and comes in addition to a current location in Fairfax, Virginia. Norman did not say how many people it plans to hire at the new location, but cited the area's business climate and business development in choosing San Diego. The firm said Einar Oftedal, its Vice President Emerging Technologies and Innovations is moving to San Diego to head up the new office. Norman's global headquarters are in Norway. Fizziology Expands In The UK ---- Hollywood-based social media research company Fizziology said this morning that it has launched a new, U.K. research arm, which will help provide customers with tracking of online conversations in that country. Fizzilogy provides online social media monitoring of Facebook, Twitter, blogs, and other sites to help the media, entertainment, and sports industry track trends. Acacia Research Appoints President ---- Newport Beach-based patent storehouse Acacia Research said today that it has named Matthew Vella as President of the firm. Vella has been at Acacia Research Group since 2006, and has been serving as Executive Vice President since October of last year. Prior to Acacia, Vella had served at ATI Research and Nortel Networks. Acacia owns a significant storehouse of patents, which it aggressively licenses to other companies. Local College Startups Get Limelight ---- Four, local college startups -- all founded at the University of Southern California -- have the spotlight in the latest Inc.com magazine, which highlights America's coolest College Start-Ups. The article highlighting eighteen startups founded out of college included 1st Round Sports (founded by Teague and Riley Egan, Zack Johnson, and Sterling Brewster); Stoked Skateboards (founded by David Rajewski); Salute The Brave Apparel (founded by Ryan Morris); and TrueRSVP (founded by Fei Xiao and Anna Sergeeva). TrueRSVP has scored funding from OrganicStartup, the venture accelerator run by angel investor Scott Sangster. All four startups are in the Los Angeles area. http://www.inc.com/college-startups GlobalWide Media Buys Canadian Firm ---- Westlake Village-based GlobalWide Media, a provider of online affiliate marketing, display marketing, search engine marketing, and other services, has acquired Canadian firm Neverblue Media Company and AKMG, the firm said last week. The deal was worth $40M in cash. Neverblue is a provider of performance-based online marketing, and is based in Victoria, British Columbia. AKMG is an operator of an affiliate marketing network which was run in conjunction with Neverblue, and is based in El Segundo. GlobalWide Media is headed by Farshad Fardad. FaceCake Gets Funding For Virtual Dressing Rooms ---- Calabasas-based FaceCake Marketing Technologies, a developer of 3-D, virtual dressing room technology, has raised a round of funding from XG Ventures, a Silicon Valley venture firm whose founders are former Google execs. Amount of the funding was not disclosed. The funding round was first reported by the Wall Street Journal Tuesday morning. FaceCake develops 3-D software which allows consumers to try on different outfits, and is apparently debuting on Thursday at Bloomingdale's. http://www.socaltech.com/intelligence/?action=showdeal&id=44983 LA Technology Investor Bohnett Appointed To Kennedy Center Board ---- David Bohnett, the founder of Geocities.com, and currently head of Los Angeles venture capital firm Baroda Ventures, has been appointed as a Trustee to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The appointment was announced Friday by the White House and the Obama administration. Bohnett, who spends a significant amount of time nowadays focused on philanthropic efforts, is currently Chairman of the Board of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, and is a trustee at Los Angeles County Museum of Art, in addition to other efforts. Baroda Ventures has invested in such companies as DogVacay, GradientX, GraphEffect, LifeCrowd, OVGuide, SurfAir, and Retention Science, among others. Bohnett is one of the early pioneers of Southern California's technology industry, having founded GeoCities.com in 1994 and selling it to Yahoo in 1999. POP Charger Gets $139K In Crowdfunded Project ---- The POP Charger project on Kickstarter, the electronics charging device being developed by local serial entrepreneur Jamie Siminoff, closed out its funding effort on Kickstarter over the weekend, raising a total of $139,170 out of a $50,000 goal, from 1,000 backers. The project--which was launched in July--goes towards creating a project to create a portable device charger capable of charing multiple iPhones, iPads, and other devices all at thes same time. Siminoff is the former CEO of Unsubscribe.com, which he sold to TrustedID in November of last year. Siminoff turned to crowdsourcing, rather than seed or venture funding, for this latest project. Elevance Pulls IPO ---- Elevance Renewable Sciences, the producer of specialty, renewable chemicals based on research licensed from Pasadena-based Materia, has pulled its IPO. The Illinois company said in a filing this morning that it has pulled the IPO due to a new private placement of preferred stock. Elevance just announced a $104M venture capital round in July, a Series E round which came from Lacustrine Limited via Genting Genomics Limited, and Total Energy Ventures International.
