NantWorks' Soon-Shiong Eyes AEG
----
Patrick Soon-Shiong, the biotech billionaire behind local technology
thinktank and investor NantWorks, has emerged as a potential bidder
for AEG, the owner of the Staples Center, and part owner of the L.A.
Lakers, L.A. Kings, and L.A. Galaxy, according to reports. NantWorks
has been one of the more active investors and acquirer of technology
and biotech companies in the area recently, although those deals are
dwarfed by a potential deal for AEG, which is reportedly seeking bids
of around $7 billion for the business.

Mobile Roadie Takes On Conferences
----
Los Angeles-based mobile apps developer Mobile Roadie is powering a
couple of apps for conferences, saying this week that its software is
being used for an app for the Internet Marketing Association
Conference & Awards this week, as well as an app for DLD, a conference
being launched around innovation, digital media, science, and culture
this weekend. The two conferences are a new angle for Mobile Roadie,
whose software makes it easy for brands and others to create their own
apps without requiring extensive development. Mobile Roadie says it
has added features such as schedules of events, news, speaker
listings, maps, live video streaming, and more which makes it easy for
conferences to build content rich, interactive apps for their events.

Artkive Solves The What-Do-I-Do-With-My-Children's-Artwork Problem
----
Anyone who is a parent is familiar with that age old problem: what to
do with that huge pile of art your kids brought home from school. A
new, Los Angeles startup, The Kive Company, has recently released its
first app, ARTKIVE, which does just that. Instead of stuffing a box
full of pictures and art in the garage, or quietly "filing" that art
in the trash, ARTKIVE allows parents to take a photo of that art with
their mobile phone, and then archives that art in the cloud, letting
users automatically get a hardcover book of that child's entire year
of art. ARTKIVE's app--available on iTunes--is free. Jedd Gold,
founder of The Kive Company, said the app is just one of the first
apps it is developing to make parents' lives easier.

Los Angeles Companies Continue To Dominate Top YouTube Channels
----
The latest ranking of the top, YouTube Partner Channels from internet
measurement firm comScore shows that the entire segment continues to
be dominated by Los Angeles companies, with the region holding six of
the top slots in the list. The August 2012 ranking by comScore ranks
Machinima at number three on YouTube, with 21.8M unique viewers;
number four is Maker Studios, with 20.9M uniques; fifth is FullScreen,
with 18.9M uniques; eight is Big Frame with 8.4M uniques, and
MOVIECLIPS at number 10 with 6.8M unique viewers during August. The
top Youtube channel continues to be VEVO, the music video joint
venture of Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, and Abu
Dhabi Media at the top, with 47.9M total unique viewers during
August--and which also has operations here.

Divshot Sets Up Shop In Los Angeles
----
What would convince you to drop everything, get on a plane, and move
your startup to Los Angeles? In the case of Divshot, a developer of
user interface development tools for web apps, it was a chance to join
Los Angeles accelerator Launchpad LA. According to Silicon Prairie
News, the founders of DivShot, Michael Bligh and Jake Johnson, jumped
at the chance to become part of the Los Angeles technology community
after winning first place at the Crowdstart LA pitch competition in
July. Divshot develops software which provides a drag-and-drop
interface to create web apps, which can then export HTML and CSS code
for use by software developers. In the Silicon Prairie article,
Johnson cited the quantity of accelerators, startups and venture
capital as reasons for making the move.

Fandango Connects Into Passbook
----
Los Angeles-based Fandango, the movie ticketing service, said that it
has connected into Apple's new Passbook App, which Apple announced for
iOS 6. Fandango said that its mobile tickets are available to store in
Apple's Passbook for iOS 6, allowing movie users to store the mobile
barcode tickets within the app. Passbook is a "digital wallet"
application meant to store coupons, loyalty cards, and more.

----
It looks like all that bacon paid off. Los Angeles-based Scopely, the
startup co-founded by Eytan Elbaz, Eytan Elbaz, Walter Driver and
Ankur Bulsara, which is developing social and mobile games, said this
morning that it has raised $8.5M in a new, seed financing round, from
Anthem Venture Partners, The Chernin Group, Greycroft Venture Partners
and New Enterprise Associates (NEA), as well as angels. The firm--best
known until now for its effort to recruit employees with the promise
of $11,000 wrapped in bacon, free beer, and more--said that the
funding also included a long list of angels, including Terry Semel
(Yahoo), Brian Lee (ShoeDazzle, Honest Company), Michael Lazerow
