The round was led by the Founders Fund. The company, which is led by Dale Fox, said it will use the funding to hire additional engineers and scientists, and to expand its internal R&D facility. The company also said it has quietly soft-launched a new, software-as-a-service, hosted version of its service, SocialEngine Cloud. The new cloud-based service lets anyone create a community website, including discussion communities and more. PCN Finds $5.25M For Ethernet Networking Technology ---- San Diego-based PCN Technology, a developer of Ethernet and IP networking hardware, said this morning that it has raised $5.25M in a funding round. The firm said the round included its existing investors, executives, and board members, along with Enertech Capital and new individuals in San Diego. PCN's products include a managed Ethernet switch and routers. http://www.socaltech.com/intelligence/?action=showdeal&id=45414 Nirvanix Selected By IT Services Provider Logicalis ---- San Diego-based cloud storage firm has roped in Logicalis, a billion dollar IT solutions and managed solutions provider today, the company disclosed this morning. Nirvanix said that it will provide enterprise cloud storage services to Logicalis customers, expanding that firm's cloud solutions portfolio. Terms of the agreement were not announced. Logicalis will resell the Nirvanix cloud storage service for backup, archiving, collaboration, and disaster recovery for its customers. Clearlake Capital Group Buys Mobile Device Management Firm Mformation ---- Santa Monica-based private equity firm Clearlake Capital Group said today that it has acquired substantially all of the assets of Mformation Technologies, a developer of mobile device management software. FInancail terms of the buy were not disclosed. Clearlake said the acquisition includes a "significant capital infusion" for the New Jersey company. Clearlake's Behdad Eghbali and Prashant Mehrotra are both joining Mformation's board with the acquisition and investment. Clearlake said it was advised by Balackstone Group, Cooley LLP, and DLA Piper LLP in the deal. Vitesse Opens New Office in Shanghai ---- Camarillo-based Vitesse Semiconductor is expanding in China today, saying it has opened up a new, Shanghai office. The firm said the new office will help it more closely support its customers in China. Vitsse did not say how big of an office it will be opening in the location. Teledyne CFO Sets Retirement ---- Thousand Oaks-based Teledyne Technologies, the diversified electronics, instrumentation, aerospace, and engineered systems firm, said this morning that its Senior Vice President and CFO, Dale A. Schnittjer, is retiring. Schnittjer will step down on November 18th. Schnittjer joined Teledyne in 2004. The company said that it will be naming Wajid Ali as Corporate Vice PResident and Controller; Ali was previously at DALSA, which recently was acquired by Teledyne, and also headed up finances for a business unit at Advanced Micro Devices. Rodedog: 11 Year Old's App Wins 20K To Stop Texting While Driving ---- Remember that hackathon held a couple of weeks ago in Los Angeles by AT&T to spur interesting ideas in apps to stop texting while driving? The winner was an 11 year old, Victoria Walker, who just won $20,000 for RodeDog, an app which uses a dog's bark to remind people not to text while driving. The app was created by Walker and David Grau, of interactive agency WLDG. The two were part of a crowd of around 120 people at the event, which was one of a number of hackathon events in the Los Angeles area recently, looking to find talented developers and ideas. RodeDog's app uses GPS and a warning bark to help stop people from texting while driving. SpaceX Gets Launch Date For First ISS Supply Run ---- SpaceX, the privately held, Southern California developer of spacecraft and rockets, said Friday that NASA and the firm have announced October 7th, 2012, as the target launch date for its first resupply mission to the International Space Station. According to SpaceX, the launch of its Falcon 9 and Dragon spacecraft will be 8:34 p.m. EDT from Cape Canaveral. The launch comes after the huge success of the first docking of the SpaceX Dragon with the ISS in May; NASA now has SpaceX set for 12 missions under a commercial resupply contract. The announcement came on an appropriate day for Southern California's aerospace industry, as the retired Space Shuttle Endeavour made its victory lap around the LA basin, before landing at LAX. SpaceX says that its aircraft and the mission will be the first time that America has had the capability to deliver and return cargo from the ISS since the Space Shuttle was retired. SpaceX said its first supply mission will include materials to support 166 experiments in plant cell biology, human biotechnology, and materials technology. Apple's iPhone 5 Powered By Broadcom, Qualcomm, Skyworks Chips ---- The teardown of Apple's latest iPhone, the iPhone 5, by iFixit shows that three Southern California companies are shipping an awful lot of chips today as people scramble to get their hands on the device. The teardown by iFixit shows multiple chips from Skyworks, Qualcomm, and Broadcom in the iPhone 5, including (More...) http://bit.ly/UmaJn8 MobileCause Partners With Sage ---- Los Angeles-based mobile fundraising application developer MobileCause has partnered with Sage, to provide its mobile fundraising platform to Sage's nonprofit customers. Sage announced the agreement Friday, saying that MobileCause will be integrated with its Sage Millennium and other products. Financial details of the link were not disclosed. MobileCause, which is headed by Doug Plank, is backed by un-named venture and angel investors. Sage runs its North American operations out of Irvine. MobileCause develops products used by nonprofits, political organizations, and others to manage donations communications, and CRM efforts. GraphEffect Ties Into Facebook Partner Program ---- Santa Monica-based GraphEffect has become an official partner of Facebook, the firm said last week. The company said it has become a Strategic Preferred Marketing Developer (PMD) by Facebook, which it says is the "highest distinction" offered by Facebook to its marketing partners. GraphEffect develops marketing analytics tools which tap into the world of social networking and media.
